“Good Bad Ugly is an eagerly anticipated action-comedy film in the Tamil language, helmed by director Adhik Ravichandran and brought to life by Mythri Movie Makers. The movie features Ajith Kumar in the central role, with Trisha Krishnan and Sunil rounding out the cast.
Prior to its official reveal, the film was known by the working title AK63, marking it as Ajith’s 63rd lead role. The announcement was made in March 2024, unveiling both the film’s title and its production details. Filming kicked off in May 2024 in Hyderabad. The music score is crafted by Devi Sri Prasad, with Abinadhan Ramanujam taking charge of cinematography and editing executed by Vijay Velukutty.
Set to hit theaters in January 2025, the film’s release is timed to coincide with the festive celebration of Pongal.
The film’s creative team includes Adhik Ravichandran as director and co-writer alongside Ravi Kandasamy and Harish Manikandan. The production is led by Naveen Yerneni, Y. Ravi Shankar, Bhushan Kumar, Krishan Kumar, and Suresh Chandra. As for the technical crew, Abinandhan Ramanujam handles cinematography, while Vijay Velukutty takes care of editing, with music composed by Devi Sri Prasad. In early 2019, during the production of Nerkonda Paarvai, Adhik Ravichandran crossed paths with Ajith Kumar and pitched a script to him. Ajith expressed his interest in starring in the film but preferred to hold off on any announcements until the producers were officially confirmed. During this interim period, Ajith dedicated his efforts to Valimai (2022) and Thunivu (2023), while Adhik completed Bagheera and Mark Antony (both 2023).
After a two-year gap, Suresh Chandra, who manages Ajith, revealed that talks were underway for Adhik to helm Ajith’s 63rd movie. By November, the project was officially recognized, tentatively named AK63. It was backed by Mythri Movie Makers, led by Naveen Yerneni and Y. Ravi Shankar, marking their inaugural foray into Tamil cinema. The company publicly unveiled the film’s title, Good Bad Ugly, on March 14, 2024, drawing inspiration from the classic The Good, the Bad and the Ugly (1966).
The film’s production budget stands at ₹270 crore (approximately US$32 million), with reports indicating that Ajith is set to earn ₹165 crore (around US$20 million) as his fee. Initially intended to be filmed in Tamil, Adhik mentioned that they are also contemplating shooting significant sections in Telugu. The technical team comprises cinematographer Abinandhan Ramanujam, editor Vijay Velukutty, music composer Devi Sri Prasad, costume designer Anu Vardhan, and stunt coordinators Supreme Sundar and Kaldian Vodenchardy.
Ajith is said to take on a triple role in the film, which is reflected in its title. Trisha Krishnan has been cast as the female lead, marking her sixth collaboration with Ajith following their previous projects: Ji (2005), Kireedam (2007), Mankatha (2011), Yennai Arindhaal (2015), and Vidaamuyarchi. On June 28, Sunil confirmed his participation in the film, reuniting with Adhik for the second time after their work on Mark Antony.
Originally, principal photography was set to commence in June 2024; however, due to plans for Ajith and the team to travel to the United Arab Emirates for shooting at the end of May, they kicked off the first schedule earlier on May 9 at Sarathi Studios in Hyderabad. The initial scenes filmed included an action sequence choreographed by Supreme Sundar. This first shooting phase wrapped up by June 9. Co-producer Suresh Chandra mentioned that the production team is looking to head to South America for the upcoming second schedule.

Good Bad Ugly is set to hit theaters in January 2025, perfectly timed for the Pongal festival. In addition to its release in Tamil, the film will also be available in Telugu, Hindi, Kannada, and Malayalam.
