Joseph Vijay Chandrasekhar, popularly recognized as Vijay, is a celebrated Indian actor and playback singer deeply rooted in Tamil cinema. With a career that has flourished for over thirty years, Vijay boasts an impressive filmography of more than 65 films, establishing himself as one of the most commercially successful figures in the industry. His works include numerous blockbusters that rank among the highest-grossing Tamil films ever, and he stands as one of India’s top-paid actors.
Hailing from Madras and born to director S. A. Chandrasekhar, Vijay embarked on his journey in the film world as a child actor in the Tamil movie Vetri (1984). After appearing in several of his father’s projects, he took on his first leading role in Naalaiya Theerpu (1992) at just 18 years old. His talent has earned him a multitude of accolades throughout his career.
Affectionately called “Thalapathy,” which means commander, Vijay enjoys a vast and devoted fanbase. In February 2024, he made headlines by announcing his retirement from acting to pursue a political career with the establishment of Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam.
